The Indianapolis Colts have the best record in the NFL, and are on their way to a playoff birth and a division title. However, over the last two weeks there is one glaring concern that needs to be addressed.
Through 10 weeks, the offense is a juggernaut led by Jonathan Taylor, and the defense is coming along to be a solid unit led by defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. The Colts are on their bye in Week 11 and with that, reflection and expectations are in order. As mentioned, it is expected that the Colts make the playoffs this year, which will be the first time since 2020. The Colts are also in a very good position to win the AFC South, which would be the first time since 2014.
Although the expectations are high, reflecting on the last two weeks should bring some concern. The big concern being that Daniel Jones has been a complete turnover machine the last two weeks. In Week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jones had five turnovers, all on his own. This past Sunday, he had one interception to go along with three fumbles, two of which were fortunately recovered. Needless to say, though, the Colts offense will struggle to maintain pace with the best teams if their quarterback continually turns the ball over.

Daniel Jones Is Still an Asset to the Offense but Concerns are Warranted
The Good
Before judgment can be passed, the overall picture needs to be presented. Yes, Daniel Jones has had seven turnovers over the span of two games, but he also has been extremely efficient. He leads the league in total yards, is second in QBR, and fourth in yards per attempt. Oddly enough, Jones also ranks 10th in the league in “interceptable passes” which essentially just means that he has thrown the 10th fewest amount of passes in harms way. If the Colts are going to make a Super Bowl run, they will need Jones to keep the ball out of harms way and be smart when running with the ball. Up until Week 9, Jones was near flawless with only three turnovers through eight games. For some reason, it feels like he has been bit by the turnover bug, and when it bites, it often happens at the worst time.

The Bad
Obviously, any quarterback can commit a costly turnover at any given point in any given game. The issue here is that Daniel Jones used to be the kind of quarterback that was very careless with the football. Subsequently, that was a big reason why he was benched in New York and traded away.
While with the Giants, Jones was 24-44-1 as a starter with 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions and 50 fumbles (though, not all were lost fumbles). In the 2024 season in which he was benched, he started 10 games and went 2-8 with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. The efficiency was not there and the Giants decided to move on. Now that he is the starter with the Colts, there are glimpses of the 2024 season as he now leads the league in fumbles with eight and has had seven turnovers in the span of two games. The big difference between this season and last season is that Jones has been very efficient when he plays as a game-manager.
Bottom Line
The Colts are in a very good position to make a splash in the playoffs and even make a push to a Super Bowl. They have the best running back, the best overall offense, and a solid defense. The concern is that if anything is going to stifle their pursuit of a Super Bowl, it will be Daniel Jones.
