The Colts currently sit at 3-4 after a heartbreaking and controversial loss to the Cleveland Browns. However, even though the record conveys a team below 500, offensively they have been playing like a juggernaut. Comparing this season to last year, the difference is that this team is 1). they have gotten younger with playmakers and 2). Shane Steichen is the head coach.
There is no question that the helpless offense that showed itself in games every week last year has done a complete 180-degree turn and has become a fairly potent offense that can put up points, maintain TOP, and keep defenses on their heels.

Through the first 7 weeks, Shane Steichen has this offense ranked close to the top in many key offensive categories.
Points/Game – 25.4 (Ranked #6)
Yards/Game – 361.1 (Ranked #10)
Yards/Play – 5.4 (Ranked #13)
TDs/Game – 2.9 (Ranked #5)
3rd Down Conv. % – 39.60% (Ranked #17)
RZ Scoring % (TD) – 58.33 (Ranked #12)
In case these numbers were not impressive enough for the rookie head coach, Steichen also has led this team to score 20+ points in every game this season. The Colts are the only team to achieve this feat and for a team that is young, it is encouraging to know that this is only the beginning.

On the flip side, though, the Colts are one of the worst teams in terms of giveaways. It can certainly be understood that with a young offense, miscues and turnovers will happen, but particularly, it been at the hands of backup QB Gardner Minshew who has committed 8 turnovers in the last 2 games. That being said, though, the offense still continues to move along well; it’s just unfortunately that turnovers seem to put the opposing teams in very advantageous situations.
The good news for the Colts moving forward, whether they win many more games this season or not, is that Anthony Richardson will be back healthy next year to bask in the talent and scheme that Steichen has produced. His aggressive style and methodical play calling is exactly the type of scheme that a young team can grow into and develop into a dynasty. The Colts fans have so much to be excited about, especially moving forward.
