On Wednesday, June 28th, it was reported that Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers is expected to be suspended for the 2023 season for violating the league’s gambling policy. The Colts CB room is a very young group, and Rodger’s expected suspension only makes the group younger.
CB Kenny Moore II will be called upon to be the veteran presence that is vital to this young squad. However, aside from Moore, what other cornerbacks can step up and help this young defense compete against these elite AFC offenses?
Here are five cornerbacks to watch entering the 2023 season:

Dallis Flowers – Unfortunately, Flowers has not had a lot of playing time entering his second year as an undrafted free agent. He only started one game last year, but did appear in 13 games with some experience in kick returns. While he might not be ready to be a starter for week one, Gus Bradley will certainly want to utilize him, if for no other reason than his one year of experience.

Julius Brents – Taken in the 2nd round of the 2023 NFL draft, Brents is looking to compete for a starting role. With training camp on the horizon, time will tell on whether or not he will be that guy. However, with the Rodger’s suspension, he will face some pressure to perform as a rookie.

Darius Rush – Rush, who was taken in the 5th round of the 2023 NFL draft, is also looking to compete for a starting role. That being said, the Colts will need to be cautious about having two rookie corners in such a vital position. We saw what happened last year when inexperience came on too early (i.e.bernhard raimann at left tackle in 2022).

Jaylon Jones – Training Camp will be a great way to see what 7th round rookie, Jaylon Jones, can bring to this team. He was taken behind Darius Rush and Julius Brents, so it will be interesting to watch them compete every week as he could very well be another 7th round gem, like S Rodney Thomas II was.

Cole Coleman – Undrafted free agents get overlooked every season and there is good reason as to why. Coleman comes from a smaller school in Elon University, in which he was named All-CAA in the 2021 season. He has play making ability, but can he compete at this high of a level and produce? This remains to be seen as he will have some stiff competition with his fellow rookies.
